Facebook, a social networking website has announced the introduction of an API (Application Program Interface) and named it as Open Stream API.

This API will enable the third party developers to access the feed of the content which is been posted on the notes, videos, photos, comments and links etc which is been built on the Social networking platform.

Facebook calls it as the latest implementation of the open standard which they call as the Activity Streams.

Chris Messina, an open source developer had quoted that facebook is moving further from the simple blog post phenomenon towards the twitter community scenario but again with various interesting advancements as facebook means many more activities other than the status updates as what the Twitter does.

Open Stream APIs will make it quite easy for the other social networking sites and the media sharing applications to access them without any hurdles as it is an open standard and with this they are planning to cover the mobiles and desktops too along with the web applications.

They have planned to organise an event in Palo Alto, California to make this new announcement to the developers worldwide.

Along with facebook many other networking sites are also moving towards the open streams like the MySpace.
